The fall steelhead run appears over, although Dick Parker of Central Park Bait in Mishawaka said a few fish are still being caught.
The fall run has been a disappointment, to say the least. The 2012 fall river steelhead fishery ranks 12th when compared to 15 previous fall runs.

The DNR is stocking larger walleyes in the fall.You get the sense from Hoosier biologists that good things are beginning to happen for northern Indiana walleye anglers.
Not that they arent improving, but biologists seem to be getting a better handle on what it takes to produce even better fishing.
One of those is how fish are stocked. There is very little evidence of natural reproduction in our waters so a fine-tuned stocking approach is required.
Historically, Indiana has thrown a lot of tiny walleyes in the lakes then kept their fingers crossed that they would survive. Some did. Most didnt.

Trout, salmon, muskies and panfish are keeping anglers satisfied during the wet, windy weather.
Despite low numbers of trout and salmon that have entered the St. Joseph River this fall, the catches have been pretty good throughout the system.
Dick Parker of Central Park Bait in Mishawaka says a fair number of steelhead and salmon are being taken by anglers. Similar reports are coming out of Niles and Berrien Springs.
However, the steelhead run remains disappointing; less than 900 have been recorded passing the South Bend ladder, well below average. Salmon are helping the cause, as nearly 200 kings and 175 coho are roaming between South Bend to the Twin Branch dam.
