Mike Frank and Jason Cook (Niles) won the Southwest Michigan Angler’s two-day Classic on Muskegon Lake last weekend.

Small-craft advisories made for tough fishing conditions on the big lake connected to Lake Michigan and prevented anglers from running to other nearby lakes.

Even so, the winners caught five-bass limits each day for a total of 31.87 pounds that earned them $1,000. They also took big bass honors ($75) the second day with a 4.35-pound largemouth. They caught their fish on tube jigs in 6 to 12 feet of water.

Ron Nelson (Berrien Springs) and Mike Barbee (Niles) were second ($630) with 27.29 pounds caught on spinnerbaits in 6 to 10 feet. Ron Fabisak (South Bend) and Jim Meadow (Mishawaka) were third ($400) with 36.81 pounds caught on crankbaits. John Gipson Jr. and Sr. were fourth ($295) with 25.41 pounds and had the first day big bass with a 4.95-pound smallmouth.
