Indiana Conservation Officer Tyler Brock recently cited two Ft. Wayne deer hunters for hunting deer by the aid of bait.

Brock had received a complaint from a concerned citizen about the illegal activity. On Oct. 6, Brock allegedly located Richard Balser 23, and Shane Steigerwald 29, both of Ft. Wayne, hunting over a baited area on the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area. Both men were cited for the violation.

Indiana Conservation Officer's would like to remind deer hunters that it is illegal to hunt deer by the aid of bait. A bait is a food that is transported and placed for consumption, including but not limited to piles of corn or apples placed in the field, prepared solids or liquids manufactured and intended for consumption by livestock or wild deer, including but not limited to salt or mineral supplements. All bait and baited soils must be removed from the area 10 days prior to hunting. Agricultural fields and food plots are not considered baited area.

Concerned citizens can report fish and wildlife violations and violators by calling the “Turn In A Poacher” hotline at 1-800-TIP-IDNR. A cash reward of up to $200 will be paid for information leading to the arrest of fish and wildlife violators.
