Development of the proposed Eagle Lake Boating Access at Eagle/Juno lakes near Edwardsburg, Mi. continues to move at a snail’s pace, yet some action occurred this week.

The Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has posted development plans and opened it up to public comment until June 3.

You can review the plan at http://www.deq.state.mi.us/lwmpnh-data/14140044pn.pdf.

Of course, the Michigan DNR doesn’t make it easy to sort thru its bureaucratic maze to determine where to send comments. However, the following link will get you there:
http://www.deq.state.mi.us/lwmpnh/InformationPage.asp?aid=14140044&at=pn

Or, if you don’t have computer access and wish to send a letter, direct it to:

Mr. Larry Poynter
Sr. Environmental Quality Analyst
Water Resources Division
Kalamazoo District Office
7953 Adobe Rd.
Kalamazoo, MI 49009

Remember, this public comment period deals with environmental issues, not the need for the access.

Even so, it’s very important that anglers voice their support. Lakers who have fought to prevent the access have tried to turn the focus on environmental concerns and you can bet they will flood the DEQ with complaints.

If comments are approved at the DEQ, the DNR will draw up detailed plans for another presentation before the Ontwa Township Plan Commission. We’ll need your support then as well.

Even if all the pieces fall into place, don’t look for the new launch and paved parking area to be available for use until late this year or next spring.
