Pike expert Keith Stanton will share his tips at D&R Sports Center.D&R Sports Center is hosting a free two-day weekend Ice Fishing Show Dec. 1-2, 2012 at its Kalamazoo store.
World-ranked ice fishing pros will give free seminars to share their experience, tips and tricks for successful ice fishing.
The two-day event also will include hands-on displays and demonstrations. More than 25 manufacturers of ice fishing equipment will be on hand.
Keith Stanton will demonstrate his PikeKilla lure and the vertical jigging techniques he has perfected. He will also share his proven methods for spearing pike and the proper use of pike decoys to attract trophy fish.
The event will also feature two of Michigans national pro ice anglers and charter guides, Captain Dave Ellis and Captain Myron Gilbert. The two are the reigning North American Ice Fishing Champions and will compete in this years North American Ice Fishing Championship.
Ellis, a charter captain for 26 years, has fished for every species in the Great Lakes area. In the hard-water season, Ellis concentrates on the ice guiding and competing in ice fishing tournaments.
Gilbert has guided for 26 years and fished competitively on ice for 10 years. He has won four Team of the Year titles and two national championships in 2008 and 2011.
The recent introduction of modern technology into the sport of ice fishing, from high-tech battery powered drills, underwater cameras, sensitive fish finders that can track the movement of small ice lures, carbon-fiber rods and cold-weather performance clothing has added a whole new dimension to this winter sport, says store owner Randy VanDam.
