R&B winners at Wawasee

Bobby Nelson (Fulton, Ind.) and Jim Hippensteel (Rochester, Ind.) captured the R&B Circuit season opener on Lake Wawasee with 17.47 pounds of largemouth.

The winners ($892) caught all of their fish from a single area by snapping tubes and Erie Darters (watermelon/gold) paired with 3/8-ounce jigs. They fished a sharp drop-off, positioning their boat in 22 feet of water and casting to the shallow edge.

Jake Horn (Valparaiso) and Rich Osgood (St. Joseph, Mich.) only landed four keepers, but they weighed 13.93 pounds and earned them second place ($573). This included the Money Mouth Baits Big Bass, a 5.48-pound behemoth, worth a bonus $480. They worked staging areas in front of channels and tricked fish with a combination of jerkbaits, jigs, and Jr. Erie Darters. The big fish bit the jig.

A magical 10 minutes was all that was needed for Steve Kline (Albion) and Mark Farver (Goshen) to land 11.20 pounds and take third place ($414). With zero fish in the livewell, a move to a pocket of weeds quickly brought five keepers to the boat in a matter of minutes. All fish bit a 1/8-ounce Bitsy Bug jig.

The next event will be held at Lake Maxinkuckee May 16. More information can be found at www.randbbasscircuit.com.
