Sixteen two-person teams plus one brave soul that had to fish alone braved the 40- mile an hour wind gusts, cold temperatures and rain to battle it out for the IBF Zone 1 Tournament of Champions on Lake Maxinkuckee in early October.

The two highest finishing anglers from each of the 27 clubs in Zone 1, which make the up the north part of the state down to SR 22, are invited to attend.

The Indiana Bass Club team of Steve Michel, Wheatfield, and Mark Eck, Portage, claimed top honors with five bass weighing 11.57 pounds. The win was worth $578. They also took Big Bass Honors with a 4.01 pound largemouth which earned them another $85.

The South Bend based St Joe Valley Bass Masters took second and won $347. Craig Stanley, LaPorte, and Diana Bauer, Granger, had a five fish limit that weighed 10.16 pounds. Ryan Hochstetler, Shipshewana, and Clint Brown Angola, represented the LaGrange County Bass Masters. They finished third with fish weighing 9.39 pounds and took home $231.

The Indiana Bass Masters team of Mike Foor and Jerry Palmer, Huntington, claimed 4th with five fish weighing 9.04 pounds. They won a $90 gift certificate from Starboard Choice Marine of Mishawaka, Fourteen of the teams weighed in fish. A total of 60 fish were brought to the scales weighing 107.26 pounds. All were released alive.
