Farver and Kline Win Again
Mark Farver (Goshen) and Steve Kline (Albion) won their second consecutive R&B Circuit Open Tournament, taking last weekendĂs event on Lake Manitou.
The duo, who won the previous R&B Open on Wawasee the week prior, caught an 11.68-pound limit to whip a field of 38 teams and pocket $600.
After struggling for two hours, they came across clear water and saw a dead shad floating. They instinctively threw a swimbait and caught a dozen keepers in a 50-foot stretch.
Pat Cox (Macy, Ind.) and Jim Hippensteel (Rochester) pieced together an 11.64-pound limit by
working jerkbaits and jigs between 12-14 feet of water to finish second ($400).
Ron Fabiszak and Tad Hepler were third and had big bass
Ron Fabiszak (South Bend) and Tad Hepler (Niles) had 11.61 pounds, anchored by the biggest bass of the tournament, a 4.47-pound beast. They earned $300 for second and $200 for big bass. They caught all of their fish midday in a one-hour flurry on jigs and lipless crankbaits from less than three feet of water.
