Tackle Shack Report
Richard Chupp Jr. and Sherry Wise caught 11.08 pounds on Ned Rigs on the St. Joseph River to win the Tackle Shack Open last weekend at 6 Span Bridge.
The couple fished next to wood in the main river channel and had the best action between 11:45 and 12:45. The fish shut off so they decided to give the spot a rest for 40 minutes. When they returned, they caught their two biggest fish that helped earn them the $475 first-place prize.
Jason Schwartz and Brian Miller were second ($240) with 10.91 pounds caught on blade baits and Ned Rigs. They said all of their bites came off one stump that sat on the edge of the old river channel in 12 to 14 feet of water.
Greg Mangus and Kevin Fletcher were third ($155) with 10.82 pounds while Jared Yoder and Brice McMillan were fourth ($80) with 10.71 pounds.
Steve Nielsen and Brian Hicks won the big bass pot ($190) with a 3.85-pound smallmouth caught on a Strike King Series 1 crankbait.
The tournament drew 19 teams. The season ending event is Saturday at Fish Lake (Marcellus, Mich). Entry fee is $50 plus optional $10 big bass pot.
