Elite pro Keith CombsElite pro Keith CombsD&R Sports Center in Kalamazoo has announced a new team bass fishing tournament series in 2014.

The official launch of the new circuit will kick off March 1 during a free daylong “Bass Tournament Day” from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kalamazoo store.

No other details have been provided. Rules, schedules and sign-up information will be made available at the show.

As an added bonus, B.A.S.S. Elite pro angler Keith Combs will offer free fishing seminars at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 pm.

The circuit consists of four Saturday tournaments and a final series championship. The winner of the championship will take home a new Tracker Pro Team 175 fully-equipped with a 60 horsepower Mercury outboard, a Minn Kota trolling motor and Humminbird electronics, all valued at more than $17,000.

The D&R Sports Center Tournament Series is co-sponsored by several of the leading manufactures in the fishing industry including: Humminbird, Minn Kota, Tracker Marine, Mercury Outboards, Shimano Rods & Reels, Strike King Lures and Loomis Rods, and several other sponsors pending.

“Over the past couple of years, the number of competitive circuits has declined,” said owner Randy VanDam. “We are excited to offer this new series for local anglers to not only get out and enjoy the sport of competitive bass fishing but also have an opportunity to share in generous payouts.”

VanDam said that the series will also give anglers an opportunity to compete for a spot in the Bassmasters Team Championship qualifying competition.

Representatives from the BBT Tournament Circuit, the B.A.M Series, and Shoreline Bass will also be on hand throughout the Saturday event to talk to interested anglers about their bass fishing circuits.

Combs has fished professionally for seven years on both the FLW tour and BASS Elites. He resides in Texas near lakes Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend.

“The D&R Sports Tournament Series is open to 75 teams with cash and bonus prizes being awarded to many more anglers than just the top handful of places,” said VanDam. “This is a fantastic opportunity for area anglers who register.”
