Walleye Club WinnersWalleye Club WinnersEd Szymczak staked claim to family bragging rights last weekend during the Michiana Walleye Association's Perry's Automotive Challenge at Big Turkey Lake in Lagrange County.

The Osceola angler teamed up with Dallas Dunn (Indianapolis) to win the event with 7.64 pounds, beating out son Steven Szymczak and his partner Jordan Felton (Osceola) who had 6.86 pounds.

The winners caught their walleyes by live-bait rigging large minnows off breaks and casting Berkley crankbaits to shallow water. Second place Szymczak and Felton used soft plastics and jigs in shallow water.

Kenneth Schrock (New Paris) and David Hochstetler (Mishawaka) were third with 3.85 pounds caught on crawler harnesses in 15-20 foot of water.

The elder Szymczak and partner Dunn also won the ClearH2O Tackle Big fish award ($270) with a 6.51-pound walleye. Son Steven and Jordan had the second largest (5.75 pounds) and won $90.

David and Adam Hayes (Edwardsburg), who finished fourth, won the bonus TrailMaster Trailer Award for being the highest placing team that used a TrailMaster boat trailer.
