The Indiana DNR will be stocking additional trout into five northern Indiana streams in the coming days.

Included in the stockings are the Pigeon River in Steuben and LaGrange Counties, Turkey Creek in LaGrange County, Little Elkhart River in Elkhart County, Little Kankakee River in LaPorte County and Potato Creek in St. Joseph County.

The Pigeon River, Turkey Creek and the Little Elkhart River will be stocked for the weekend of May 14-15 and May 28-29, Memorial Day weekend. The Little Kankakee River and Potato Creek will only be stocked for the Memorial Day weekend.

The Pigeon River stockings will take place at County Road 175 North and at County Line Road. Turkey Creek will be stocked at County Road 150 North. These stream crossings are located on the Pigeon River Fish and Wildlife Area.

The trout stocking for the Little Elkhart River will take place at the Bonneyville Mill County Park. The Little Kankakee River will be stocked with additional trout at County Roads 100 South, 500 East and at State Road 4.

Potato Creek will be stocked at North Liberty Town Park located at Jefferson and East Market streets and within Potato Creek State Park in the vicinity of the paved bicycle trail creek crossing.  Park parking is available at the West lot.  Anglers fishing at the park will have to hike or bike approximately one mile along the bicycle trail to get to them but will be rewarded with unrestricted access along a naturally scenic stream.

Although these stream sites are the only areas to receive additional trout in May, fish from the initial releases in late April are still available in most of northern Indiana’s trout streams. Although anglers have continued to reported decent action, the practice of making additional stockings at a few sites, which began in 1990, will provide a bonus and extend trout fishing opportunities.
