The Michigan DNR reminds hunters that antlerless deer application results are now available.

Application results and leftover license availability can be found at mi.gov/deer.

Any leftover antlerless deer licenses not issued in the drawing will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis beginning Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. EDT until license quotas are met.

The 2016 antlerless deer license quotas for each DMU also can be found at mi.gov/deer. Please note, DMU 333 has unlimited antlerless licenses that may be purchased without application beginning Sept. 8 at 10 a.m.

The DNR Division of Fish & Wildlife has announced county bonus antlerless quotas for deer hunting in the 2016-17 season.

Quotas have changed for seven counties ñ five that are lower than last year and two that are higher.

The new quotas are lower in Daviess (2 to 1), Gibson (4 to 3), Ohio (8 to 4), Posey (3 to 2) and Tippecanoe (4 to 3). Porter County increased from 4 to 8, and Perry County from 3 to 4.

Indiana 2015 deer harvest up 3 percent; buck harvest up 10 percent.Indiana 2015 deer harvest up 3 percent; buck harvest up 10 percent.Indiana hunters harvested 123,664 deer during the 2015 season, according to data released today by the Indian DNR.

This is a 3 percent increase from the 120,073 deer taken during the 2014 season.

The antlered deer harvest was 10 percent higher than the 2014 harvest, while the antlerless harvest was 1 percent lower than in 2014.

The overall 2015 deer harvest ranks as the 10th highest in Indiana history. The 2015 antlerless deer harvest ranks 11th highest.

Deer Numbers Still LanguishingDeer Numbers Still LanguishingAs the deer season winds down and biologists start crunching the numbers, it remains quite apparent the Michiana deer herd is a far cry from what it was three years ago.

Sure, there were some dandy bucks killed by hunters. But the number of deer harvested – based on preliminary estimates – fell well short of where they were in 2012.

Some of that is by design. Both Indiana and Michigan went through a period of liberalization of doe permits to reduce crop damage and deer/car collisions.
