Joe Balogs appreciation for organization has been garnered from thousands of trips on the water as a hunting and fishing guide. Waterfowlers are a dedicated bunch who finds wet, cold and windy weather ideal hunting conditions.
Such miserable elements prompt ducks and geese to move more regularly between roosting, feeding and loafing areas while also pushing fresh birds down along their fall migration routes. Sure, itís nasty outside, but youíd better be there if you want a shot at knocking them down.
Our sport is also gear-intensive, requiring long hours of preparation before we even set foot in the field or marsh. Once that abundant gear is readied, it needs to be transported to and from the field in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable.
Many waterfowlers make things harder than they need to be, inflicting unnecessary pain upon themselves and others in their hunting parties through a lack of organization.

The Michigan DNR, in cooperation with the U.S Fish and Wildlife Service's Federal Duck Stamp Office, now offers the federal migratory bird hunting stamp, also known as the Duck Stamp, for purchase online at www.mdnr-elicense.com.
The Federal Duck Stamp, required annually for all migratory waterfowl hunters age 16 or older, will cost $17. It will be available for purchase first via E-license and at license-sales retail locations in late August.

Potato Creek State Park near North Liberty will conduct limited Canada goose reduction hunts on Nov. 9 and 10 and Dec.14 and 15.
The purpose is to manage the growing population of Canada geese, which threatens the parks ecosystem and, potentially, the safety of park patrons.
The park will remain open during the hunts; however, Worster Lake and other aquatic areas will be closed.
Hunters wishing to participate must have a current Indiana hunting license; an Indiana waterfowl stamp; a Harvest Information Program registration number; a current and signed federal duck stamp to take Canada geese; and be at least 18 years old by Oct.19.
This hunt is only for Canada geese. All normal Canada goose hunting firearm restrictions and bag limits apply.
Participants should register at the park office on the day they wish to hunt between two hours and 90 minutes before sunrise. A random draw at 90 minutes before sunrise on each of the four days will determine hunting zone assignments.
Hunters may bring with them up to three people, who must also meet the license requirements, to hunt as a group.

Michigan hunters will once again enjoy 60-day duck seasons this fall, as the Natural Resources Commission set waterfowl seasons Thursday at its regular meeting in Muskegon.
Duck seasons will once again be split into two segments in all three of state duck-hunting zones.
In the North Zone, duck season is set for Sept. 21 Nov. 10 and Nov. 23 Dec. 1.
In the Middle Zone, duck season is Oct. 5 Dec. 1 and Dec. 14-15.
In the South Zone, duck season is slated for Oct. 12 Dec. 8 and Dec. 28-29.
