Got a case of winter doldrums? The Michiana Boat & Sport Show might be a good remedy and a reminder that spring isn’t far away.

The show opens Friday at the South Bend Century Center and runs through Sunday.

Admission is $3 for adults; children under 12 are admitted free. All gate receipts go to the Michiana Walleye Club to support its activities and stocking programs.

Last year’s inaugural show proved to be a good start and promoter Dale Brindley hopes to build upon that this year.

You can wander around and daydream while at the show, or negotiate a good deal on a fishing/pleasure boat with one of several dealers exhibiting. Michiana Chrysler-Jeep-Ram dealership will gladly sell you a truck for towing the boat home.

Need new tackle? Clear H2o and Lunker’s will be on hand selling an assortment of gear and a few local tackle manufacturers will have booths displaying their wares.

Want to book a trip to Canada? There will be a few lodges exhibiting or you can book a charter trip to Lake Erie or on Lake Michigan.

“We’ve still got room for some small vendors, but the show is sizing up pretty good,” said Brindley. “Anyone who wants to exhibit should call me (574-286-6311) as soon as possible.”

The popular trout pond for kids also will be offered again. Youngsters can fish for free, but must release the trout they catch. For bow hunters, Archery Agincourt will have an archery range set up for those who want to test their skills.

If you want to become a better trout and salmon angler, the Great Lakes Angler Super Salmon School will be conducted at the show on Saturday. Cost of the six hour class is $55 and you can sign up by calling Dan Keating, 847-395-5730.

Show hours are noon to 8 p.m. Friday, 9-9 Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
