The father/son team of John and Ryan Law (South Bend) won the R&B Classic last weekend on White Lake, Mich.
The 25 contending teams competed on a nasty day that included winds in excess of 30 mph, heavy rains, and temperatures only reaching the low 50s.
The winners had a limit weighing 15.45 pounds caught on wacky-rigged Senkos along a single outside weedline in 5-8 feet of water. They landed 18 keepers throughout the day and won $1,166 for the win.
Aaron Krider and Bob Bruick (Fort Wayne) landed 20 keepers with a pair of War Eagle spinnerbaits, an ½-ounce (purple shad) and a 3/16 ounce (white). They employed a stop-and-go retrieve and the fish hit when the bait was paused. They concentrated on water less than 4 feet deep, and had their best luck on openings in the weeds. Their best five fish weighed 14.24 and won them $776.
Greg Mangus (Fremont) and Kevin Fletcher (Elkhart) worked Mango jigs through weeds to catch a 13.79-pound limit earning them $572. The fish bit after popping the jig loose from the weeds.
The Starboard Choice Big Bass Award ($350) went to Josh Stalcup (Mishawaka) and Rick Bauer (South Bend) who tricked a 4.33-pound largemouth with a No. 6 Rapala X-Rap (ghost minnow) around wood in 5 feet of water.
The Classic paid back $5,200 to participating teams after a season that awarded top finishers more than $17,000.
