Mike VanderReyden and Brett Gessinger found a new way to catch better quality Klinger Lake bass.
When they noticed a lot of suspended fish, they wound spy baits over the top of them in 10 to 26 feet of water to catch 12.54 pounds and win the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club tourney Sunday.
The winners also had big bass, a 3.39-pound largemouth.
T.J. Reed and Trevor Jancaz were second with a limit weighing 10-68 pounds. They fished jigs in 20 to 25 feet.
Terry Smith and Scott Crocker were third with 10.08 pounds by fishing shallow with topwaters and Senkos.
Tanner Hursh and Jarrett Tighe finished fourth with 9.70 pounds. They fished 5 to 25 feet with drop-shot rigs.
There were 17 boats that caught 70 bass, 13 of which were smallmouth. The tourney catch weighed 138.43 pounds
