Fabiszak sets record in R&B winFabiszak sets record in R&B winRon Fabiszak (South Bend) proved why he ranks among Michiana’s top anglers.

Despite fishing alone, Fabiszak set an R&B Circuit record and won the circuit’s season opener on Webster Lake last weekend.

He caught 21.44 pounds (5 fish) despite freezing temperatures, snow and high, muddy water to win $748 for first plus $344 for the Money Mouth Baits Big Bass, a 5.98-pound beast. All of his fish were caught with a chatterbait in and around lily pad fields only two feet deep. Interestingly, he was the only member of the top 5 that did not fish in the Backwaters. The victory is also the most lopsided victory in R & B history.

Second place went to Greg Mangus (Fremont) and Kevin Fletcher (Elkhart) with 15.89 pounds to the scales caught on bluegill-colored homemade Bubba jigs fished amongst lily pads in 2-4 feet of water. They won $454.

Larry Stanley (Kendalville) and Dave Terry (Albion) used rattle traps in the Backwaters to catch a 13.46-pound limit for third. Two colors were productive: firetiger and rayburn craw. Five feet was the magic depth. The catch yielded them $340.

The next tournament will be held May 18 at Lake Tippecanoe. More information can be found www.randbbasscircuit.com
