The Northwest Indiana Bass Club will host an open tournament Oct. 13 at Shafer Lake.

Entry fee is $100 per team which includes ramp fee and big bass pot. The tournament will launch at the Indiana Beach Campground and tournament hours are 8-4, EST.

Donuts and giveaways will be provided at registration and the weigh-in. The event will pay $1,200 for first down to $200 for fifth if 50 teams register.

Travis Schroeder (Pierceton, Ind.) and Tom Reed (Cromwell, Ind.) beat out 33 teams with a limit weighing 11.61 pounds to win the R&B Circuit season finale on Lake Wawasee last weekend.

The duo won $690, plus $264 for the Starboard Choice Marine Big Bass Award for their 3.69-pound largemouth. The team found a 30-yard stretch of weeds between 18-20 feet deep on Lake Wawasee where they caught their fish by working ½-ounce swimbaits.


Dave Eggers (Granger) and Jason Dittmar (North Liberty) won the Indiana Farm Bureau Lake Maxinkuckee tournament last weekend.

They had a five fish limit weighing 10.23 pounds to win the Burt’s Body Shop Bass Bonanza. The victory was worth $594. Taking second with a five fish limit weighing 9.73 pounds was Jim Wheeler and Tom Seljan of Hammond, Ind. who were making their first appearance In the Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance Tournament Series. They were awarded $351.

Like their .01 pound win at Wawasee, their five bass limit weighed 8.46 pounds and just eased the scales by .01 pounds over Mitch Hayes and David Tofson of Rochester.

Hayes and Tofson, who were fishing their home waters, had a five fish limit weighing 8.45 pounds. Rich Miller and Brandon Ketchum (Portage, IN) were third with a five bass limit that weighed 8.42 pounds.


Brian Leeburg and Jeff Peden (St. Joseph) won the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club event on Magician Lake last weekend.

Less than one-half pound separated the top three teams.

The winners had a limit weighing 11.22 pounds caught on tubes and Senkos.

Bob Johnson Jr. and Sr. (Mishawaka) were second with 11.18 pounds, including a 3.87-pound largemouth that won big bass honors. They caught all of their fish on jigs.

Scott Crocker and Rick Kedik (Niles) were third with 10.8 pounds caught on Big Snack Jigs.
