With a cold winter in the forecast, some nights are just meant to curl up with a good book.
Well, I’m here to tell you about a couple of really good ones that will help pass the dreary winters and keep you entertained – “The Coon Hunter and the Kid” by Hoosier Jack Spaulding and “The Common Angler” by Ohioan Jack Wollitz.
They’d make excellent gifts so you might want to drop a hint to that loved one who never knows what to get you for Christmas.
Both are written by a couple of veteran Midwest outdoor writers whom I know and can vouch for their ability to spin a yarn.
Both books offer rather simple, yet colorful reads that tell stories any sportsman should appreciate.
In the Coon Hunter and the Kid, Spaulding offers a down-home story of a boy’s journey through manhood and the lessons he learned from mentors while growing up in rural outdoors. Spaulding’s down-home writing style will keep you captivated and smiling.
Wollitz shares the fishing experiences and acquaintances that he has enjoyed during his 33-year writing career. While it is a book about fishing, it provides an insightful perspective as to the sport’s appeal beyond just catching fish.
The paperback Coon Hunter and the Kid is available for $14.95 at Amazon while The Common Angler sells for $13.99 and can be found at most online retailers or directly from the publisher’s website, https://www.fayettevillemafiapress.com/product/the-common-angler/.
Both books also are available as E-books from Amazon.
