John Gipson and Ken Holder - 1st PlaceJohn Gipson and Ken Holder - 1st Place

John Gipson and Ken Holder fished spawning fish to win the Michiana Fishing League (MFL) Tournament on Upper and Lower Fish Lake, located southeast of LaPorte, Ind.

The winners had 12.30 pounds including a 3.52 pounder they caught with five minutes left in the tournament to win them the Pig Pluckers Big Bass Pot.

Contestants reported catching several small bass throughout the day and the bulk of the fish came from shallow water on a variety of lures.

Tom Weigel - 2nd PlaceTom Weigel - 2nd Place

Second place went to Tom Weigel who fished alone and had 9.78 pounds.

Nick Hughes and Jake Meeker - 3rd PlaceNick Hughes and Jake Meeker - 3rd Place

Nick Hughes and Jake Meeker were third with 6.75 pounds.


Best Catch Report

The Best Catch Couples tournament group braved the elements last weekend at Duke’s Bridge (Waldron Chain) and the fish cooperated.

Nearly all of the teams weighed in fish and most were caught near the weed edges on soft plastics, jigs and a few chatterbaits.

Marti and Randy Walls won with a 13-pound, 13-ounce limit that included the big bass of the tournament, a 3-pound, 5-ounce largemouth.

Marci and John Dixon - 3rd PlaceMarci and John Dixon - 3rd Place

Second place was Mark Flotow and daughter Brooke Gearheart with 11-6 and Marci and John Dixon were third with 9-10.

Casting Couples Report

A frosty morning didn’t discourage 12 Casting Couples from venturing out on Crooked Lake in Indiana Saturday for a regular season tournament.

Jake and Stephanie Lisenko (South Bend) - 1st PlaceJake and Stephanie Lisenko (South Bend) - 1st Place

Jake and Stephanie Lisenko (South Bend) won ($240) with a small limit weighing 7.07 pounds caught in the last hour of the tournament on black Jackhammer bladed jigs.

Rick and Jennifer Kedik (South Bend) - 2nd PlaceRick and Jennifer Kedik (South Bend) - 2nd Place

Rick and Jennifer Kedik (South Bend) were second ($120) with a 6.71-pound limit of smallmouth. They caught their fish on black 3-inch grubs.


R&B Report

Dave Marrow and Rich Patton pocketed $1,430 with a big win in the R&B tournament on Barbee Chain last weekend.

The winners had 18.33 pounds caught in channels over weeds.

John Gipson Jr. and Kris Iodice were second with 18.08 pounds and had the big bass prize with a 4.83 pounder. They caught spawners in channels and the main lake to win $1,000.

Dusty Clifton and Carl Pieper were third ($440) and had second big bass ($130) with 14.49 pounds. They caught spawners and pre-spawn fish.

Tom Stark and Matt Keifer were fourth ($255) with 13.66. They also caught spawning fish in channels and prespawners in front of channels while Mark Farver and Steve Kline also caught spawners to finish fifth ($210) with 13.40 pounds.

The next event will be Saturday at Sylvan Lake.
