It’s simple math really: Zero eggs equals zero fish for future stocking programs.
So, the spring walleye and steelhead egg collections by the Michigan DNR are critical components of the strategy for maintaining world-class fishing opportunities in the Great Lakes State.
Nearly fifty years have now passed since the first paddletail swimbaits splashed down in U.S. waters, the earliest designs having likely originated in France. Today, paddletails have almost singlehandedly rewritten the rules of soft plastics engagement. Abu Garcia has added a new model to the Zenon spinning selection with the Zenon X.
This new model fills the gap by offering the flexibility to fish lightweight finesse style baits while also providing the power to handle heavier baits when needed.
The Michigan DNR is concerned about a grass carp discover in the St. Joseph River in Berrien County.
A bow angler harvested a 33-pound grass carp July 7 near the Buchannan Dam. Tissue samples from the fish were submitted to a laboratory at Southern Illinois University to determine its reproductive status. Although grass carp findings are not unusual in this river, the lab results confirmed the fish was a reproductively-viable grass carp, which is cause for concern.

As much as I love power fishing techniques, youll see a drop-shot rig in my hands just about any time Im fishing Michiana lakes during the summer.
In fact, its the best way to catch bass on natural lakes this time of year and one that Ive done very well with on places like Klinger, Gull and even Grand Traverse Bay.
Bass will school and suspend just off the bottom over the deep grass flats of our lakes, so a drop-shot is ideal for catching them.
