Winter perch fishing on Southern Lake Michigan, Indiana, December 22, 2018 done cheap! Jim Wheeler and I caught 90 yellow perch in a couple of hours with live bait (minnows) in 20-35 feet of water near the Calumet River. The perch were sitting on bottom. We used cheap gear, which is explained in the video. This video shows plenty of fish catches, but also how to rig the bait, where to place the hook on a minnow, rod action, how to read a fish finder graph, and location of the annual perch migration to the Calumet River. Even though we used electronics to find these fish, shore anglers along this river can have the same success. The key was action, rather lack of action (dead sticking) the bait on the bottom. It had to be absolutely still.
