The 2024 winter wolf population survey estimate from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources found a minimum of 762 wolves in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. This year’s estimate showed an increase of 131 animals compared to the 2022 estimate of 631; however, the results demonstrate a continued trend of statistical stability in Michigan’s wolf population.

The former dock property is back in play as a potential Michigan DNR access development near Eagle and Juno lakes.
Three weeks ago, Ontwa Townships Board of Zoning Appeals rejected state plans to convert the 9 acres into a public access area. The plans called for boat launches onto Eagle Lake and the Juno Chain, a kids fishing pond, restrooms and a pavilion.
The DNR nixed the project, saying it couldnt continue without township support.
Apparently that support has been revived, thanks to interested citizens who appealed to the township and the DNR to revamp its original layout to include playground equipment. One of the zoning boards reasons for voting against the initial plan was because it didnt include playground equipment.

Will Hoosiers set another deer harvest record this season?
Probably not, says Indiana deer biologist Chad Stewart.
Thats not to say he doesnt expect a good hunting season, but the state is due for a dip.
Last year, Hoosiers harvested 136,248 deer, breaking the harvest record for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
It wouldnt surprise me if it was down a little this year, Stewart said in a press release. But I dont expect the harvest numbers to fall off a cliff. There will still be plenty of deer out there.
