Random thoughts after the 2013 Bassmaster Classic:

If B.A.S.S. doesn’t go back to Tulsa it would be a shame. What a great venue! I’m bettin’ we will back there within five years.

Despite the 20-degree mornings, thousands of fans turned out at each morning take-off.

Cliff Pace may not be the most exciting guy to win a Classic, but it was no fluke. The dude can catch them and is a very good angler.

It was good to see Jon VanDam have a good rookie Classic. He handled himself well and didn’t get rattled by all the distractions.

Kevin VanDam says he was on the winning pattern with his jerkbait, but the lack of wind on days 2 and 3 in the areas he was fishing killed his bite.

If you’ve never been to a Classic, it’s worth the trip. In addition to the weigh-ins and entertainment, the Outdoor Show is second to none. Many companies who exhibit there introduce new products at the Classic and you get to see things you don’t see in your local market.

How cool is it that BASS announced at the Classic that All-Star week will be on Muskegon Lake? That’s two tournaments in Michigan this summer; an Elite event on Lake St. Clair (Aug. 22-25) and the All Stars (Sept. 27-29).

Let’s hope JVD and KVD make the top eight so they can fish the All-Star event. The big question is will BASS allow the pros to run out into Lake Michigan and into White Lake? I’m thinking they will, weather permitting.
