A drawing for the Reynolds Creek Game Bird Habitat Area’s turkey hunt will be held at the Kingsbury Fish & Wildlife Area office at 10 a.m. CDT on April 12.

Reynolds Creek GHA is 1,250 acres near Chesterton with agricultural fields, two small woodlots and several wetlands.

To be eligible, hunters must present their 2014 turkey license, after which they'll be given a numbered badge. A computer-generated random draw will select hunters for choice of hunt period. Hunters will be drawn as individuals only.

There will be three hunters chosen for each hunt period. Hunters drawn may relinquish their hunt to a youth hunter 17 years old or younger. There are no drawings for standby hunters.

Hunters do not need to check in before the hunt at Kingsbury and should instead go straight to Reynolds Creek. Hunters will be given a permit card and should keep it with them at all times. Once a bird is harvested, the hunt is completed. After the hunt, hunters should fill out their permit card and place it in the drop box at the Reynolds Creek information kiosk.

Those successful at the Reynolds Creek drawing will not be eliminated from any other DNR turkey draws. This hunt does not entitle a hunter to an extra turkey, just an additional hunting opportunity. Leftover hunts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The hunt periods are: April 23, 24 and 25; April 26 and 27; April 28, 29 and 30; May 1, 2 and 3; May 4, 5 and 6; May 7, 8 and 9; and May 10 and 11.

Kingsbury FWA is at 5344 S. Hupp Road, LaPorte. For more information, call (219) 393-3612 or email rlorman@dnr.IN.gov.
