“In the interest of safety, today’s fishing has been canceled,” said Trip Weldon, B.A.S.S. tournament director. Winds from the south, including gusts to 35 miles, and 5-foot seas were predicted for today, and a small craft advisory was in effect. “We will err on the side of caution and the safety of our anglers and their marshals,” he added.

/>Biologist says first-ever walleye stocking in Elkhart River doing great.An experimental walleye stocking by the Elkhart River Restoration Association (ERRA) is paying off.
St. Joseph River biologist Daragh Deegan, who conducts river studies for Elkhart and South Bend, said this summer’s on-the-water work has shown remarkable success from the initial stocking two years ago.
In the fall of 2012, the association purchased about 3,200 6- to 8-inch walleyes from a Wisconsin fish farm and released them into the Elkhart River.
Deegan’s surveys this summer not only have unveiled quite a few walleyes, but several over the legal length of 15 inches and a few were pushing 17 inches.
