Could this be the year for duck hunters?Will this fall finally deliver waterfowl hunters the banner season they’ve been expecting the past couple of years?
All the components are in place. Once again, nesting conditions have been superb in the North Country. Both ducks and geese populations are up.
But as Hoosier waterfowlers know all too well, it depends on the kind of weather Mother Nature hands us when the season opens Oct 24. She hasn’t been very forgiving the past few seasons.
Indiana’s proposed season and bag limits set up similar to last year. Although the proposals require U.S. Fish and Wildlife approval, that likely won’t be a problem.
Zona, VanDam, Hite and Hackney to Appear at Fairgrounds

Mark ZonaArea anglers will have a chance to enjoy breakfast with four of the nation’s top bass fishing celebrities Aug. 22.
Kevin VanDam, Greg Hackney, Davy Hite and Mark Zona will appear that morning at the St. Joseph County Fairgrounds in Centerville, Mich. during a pancake breakfast to benefit the United Way.
All four anglers will be available between 8:30 and 10 a.m. for personal photographs and autographs. Admission is $5 per person and includes the pancake breakfast.
Zona and his wife Karin are Honorary Chairmen of the St. Joseph County United Way campaign.
