Waterfowlers Anticipate Banner YearIt’s going to be a great year for goose hunters.
That’s the reports coming in from waterfowl managers monitoring goose production throughout the flyway and Indiana is no exception.
Those surveys include more than the birds hanging out at city parks that we already know about.
Indiana DNR waterfowl biologist Adam Phelps said banding projects here and elsewhere indicate gosling production last spring was as high – or higher - as he’s ever seen it.
“It’s going to be a great year for goose hunters,” said Phelps. “And this year, hunters can hunt geese into February.”
The northern Indiana early goose season opened Saturday dates and runs to Sept. 11. Other seasons are Oct. 22 to Nov. 20, and Dec. 10 to Feb. 12.
Free Junior Deer Hunting Licenses Available at Meijer Stores Sept. 9-10, 2016

Young hunters, ages 16 and younger, once again will have the opportunity to get a free junior deer hunting license at all Meijer stores in Michigan Sept. 9 and 10.
Youths must be accompanied by an adult, and should print out and bring the free junior deer hunting license coupon to the store's sporting goods department.
The coupon is valid for a single junior deer hunting license, a $20 value, or mentored youth hunting license. Those who hunt in Michigan also must purchase a base license, which costs $6 for youths ages 10-16. The base license allows hunters to hunt small game and purchase additional hunting licenses. The mentored youth hunting license, valid only for hunters under the age of 10, includes a base license and does not require separate purchase of the base license.
