Billy Mathews and Kris Iodice - 1st Place
Billy Mathews and Kris Iodice continued their domination of Michiana bass tournaments by winning the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club (SMAC) event at Klinger Lake last weekend.
On a night when 8-pound limits dominated, the winners had five fish weighing 12.95 pounds. That included big bass of the tournament with a 3.68-pound largemouth caught on a jig. They used jigs in 4-6 feet of water to catch the winning fish.
Derek Kelly and Jordan Smith - 2nd Place
Derek Kelly and Jordan Smith were second with 10.64 pounds. They said they used electronics to help them catch their fish in 25 feet on drop-shot rigs and topwater.
Gary Bussen and Dave Hoffman had five weighing 9.39 for third. Their fish were victims of drop-shot rigs and jigs in 18-20 feet.
Kory Bloss and John Bolle were fourth with 8.98 pounds caught on Neko and drop-shot rigs in 20-28 feet.
The tournament produced 93 legal-size fish and 10 were smallmouth. Of the 20 boats, 18 teams had limits. Total weight of the 93 was 164.4 pounds.
