SMAC Report
A heavy rainstorm may have chased a few Southwest Michigan Anglers Club (SMAC) teams off Fish Lake (Marcellus, Mich.), but for Dan Baerwald and Kyle Leamer, the storm was a blessing in disguise.
Baerwald and Leamer won the event with 12.33 pounds – all of which were caught within sight of the ramp and in the last 30 minutes during a torrential downpour. They also had big bass of the event with a 3.70-pound largemouth. They used jigs and Texas-rigged tubes in 10 - 20 feet to catch the winning bag of fish.
Derek Kelly and Seth Spaulding were second with five weighing 11.73 pounds. Their fish came on dropshot rigs and buzzbaits in five feet or less.
Jason Dittmar and Tony Kaser were third with an 8.77-pound limit caught on jigs and Senkos in 3 - 10 feet.
There were 12 boats that weighed in 42 fish, all largemouth.
The next SMAC tournament is a week-nighter at Diamond Lake Aug. 16th. Hours are 5:30 p.m. until 9. Visit www.michianaoutdoorsnews.com and the Lake Drive Marine Events Calendar for more details.
