IDNR Report

The DNR will stock additional rainbow trout into nine northern Indiana streams before Memorial Day weekend.

Exceptional survival of rainbow trout at Curtis Creek Trout Rearing Station allowed additional locations to be stocked and for some locations to get more fish than previously allocated.

Those streams are: Pigeon River in Steuben and LaGrange counties; Turkey Creek in LaGrange County; Little Elkhart River in Elkhart and LaGrange counties; Cobus Creek, Rowe-Eden Ditch and Solomon Creek in Elkhart County; Little Kankakee River and Slocum Ditch in LaPorte County; and Potato Creek in St. Joseph County.

Pigeon River will be stocked at Steuben County Road 175 North and County Road 1100 West, which is the LaGrange-Steuben county line. Pigeon River also will be stocked in LaGrange County at County Road 1100 East and, depending on water temperatures, at the Nasby and Ontario dams.

In LaGrange County: Turkey Creek will be stocked at County Road 150 North, and Little Elkhart River will be stocked at County Road 1150 West.

In Elkhart County: Little Elkhart River will be stocked at Bonneville Mill Park and County Road 16; Cobus Creek will be stocked at Douglas Road upstream of the county park; Rowe-Eden Ditch will be stocked at County Road 43; and Solomon Creek will be stocked at both County Road 52 and County Road 33.

In St. Joseph County, Potato Creek will be stocked inside Potato Creek State Park, at North Liberty Town Park, and at Smilax Road.

In LaPorte County: Slocum Ditch will be stocked at Hunt Park and U.S. 30 in Wanatah (The east side of Slocum Ditch through Wanatah is owned by the town from U.S. 30 to the railroad tracks.); Little Kankakee River will be stocked at County Road 500 East, at County Road 100 South and at State Road 4.

The bag limit for trout in inland waters, other than Lake Michigan and its tributaries, is five fish per day with a minimum size of 7 inches. No more than one of these can be a brown trout.

Anglers ages 18 years and older will need an Indiana fishing license and a trout/salmon stamp to fish for trout.
