Shimano takes the next step in compact, lightweight casting reels with the new Aldebaran series that are ideal for light crankbaits and finesse lures.

Now available in four models – the Aldebaran 50 and left-hand retrieve 51 with 6.5:1 gear ratios, and the higher speed 50HG and 51HG with 7.4:1 gear ratios, the new low-profile reels introduce Shimano’s ‘SilentTune’ feature for quieter, vibration reduced bearing operation.

By reducing the vibration in the bearing that supports the spool – even when the spool is rotating at high speeds during the cast - anglers are provided with enhanced level of smoothness and casting precision.

The Aldebaran reels also feature SVS Infinity brake system technology for easy-to-manage, consistent spool control and brake force, X-Ship technology for gear durability and efficiency, and Shimano Stabile Spool Design (S3D) for further smoothness and reduces spool vibration.

“Our new Aldebaran series redefines the lightweight, compact low profile baitcasting reel category,” said Bob Mahoney with Shimano’s field test staff. . “Weighing in at a mere 4.7 ounces, it is by no means a lightweight when it comes to durability in the most demanding fishing environments. The Aldebaran reels are housed in an electro-coated magnesium frame with CI4+ material sideplates.”

The Aldebaran 50 and 51 retrieve in 25.5-inches of line per crank, while the faster gear Aldebaran 50HG and 51HG cranks in just slightly more that 29-inches. All four reels handle from 115-yards of 20-pound test PowerPro braid to 90-yards of 40-pound test – or from 105 yards of 10-pound test to 70 yards of 14-pound test mono. Suggested retail is $419.99.
