The bluegill bag limit, along with other Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife (DFW) proposals outlined here last Sunday, remain in limbo.

The DFW presented several fishing and hunting proposals to the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) Advisory Council last week. The council hears the DNR presentation then decides which ones will go before the NRC. The NRC then decides whether which proposals it deems worthy enough to go through a public hearing process.

Ah, state bureaucracy. Gotta love it.

The Advisory Council apparently didn’t get much done at last week’s meeting.

As of Friday, Wednesday’s meeting minutes weren’t posted on the NRC site and no DNR announcement was made of the outcome.

However, DNR Communications Director Tara Wolf Wolf, in a response to our emails, said that the Council didn’t take action on any of the proposals and requested the (DFW) staff continue to review the proposals.

Review…again? Does that mean the DFW didn’t do its homework in the first place?

Ok, so now what?

“It is anticipated that the proposals will come back to the Advisory Council at their next meeting,” Wolf wrote.

When is that?

“The meeting hasn’t been scheduled yet,” she replied.

As we shake our heads and chuckle, we’re left to assume the DNR will resume kicking this can down the road. Anglers can continue filling their coolers with as many bluegills as they want.
