Casting Couples Report

Brian and Renee Hensley - First PlaceBrian and Renee Hensley - First Place

The Casting Couples Classic at Duck Lake at Interlochen, Mich. not only produced some nice catches of smallmouth and largemouth, but also a marriage proposal!

Brian and Renee Hensley won $1,000 for the event with 14.65 pounds. They also won second big bass pot worth $25 and $25 gift certificate from Clear H2o. They fished jigs in 6 to 10 feet of water and concentrated on inside turns.

Rob and Kim (soon-to-be) Swem - 2nd PlaceRob and Kim (soon-to-be) Swem - 2nd Place

Rob and Kim (soon-to-be) Swem were second ($600) with 13.75 pounds and had big bass honors with a 4.05 smallmouth worth another $75 cash and a $25gift certificate from Clear H2o.  Rob proposed to Kim after the weigh-in and she accepted. They used Native Pride jigs on points with sparse weeds to catch their fish.

Loren and  Carrie Crosbie - 4th PlaceLoren and Carrie Crosbie - 4th Place

Steve and Amy Martin were third ($400) with 11.51 pounds caught on Ned rigs & tubes in 6 feet of water while Loren and Carrie Crosbie were fourth ($300) with 11 pounds caught on wacky worm rigs in 8 foot of water.

In addition, John and Zoee Dixon received embroidered jackets for winning the Angler of Year title.

Casting couples average 15 boats a tournament with up to 26 boats in its fifth season with 15 Teams competing in the Classic. A tackle box stuffed full of items from their sponsors this year, (Eagle Claw, Trokar, Native Pride baits, Shimano, Gloomis, MichianaOutdoorsnews, Inner Beauty, Money Mouth baits, Jackall lures, Power Pro line, Beef'O'Brady's, & Clear H20.

The Classic paid out more than $4,000 in cash and prizes down to seven with 7th Place taking home $100. Ten of 15 teams brought in a limit of five bass, but every team had at least one keeper bass.  

Casting Couples is hosting two OPEN tournaments, Oct.13th at Magician and Nov. 3 at Benton harbor DNR ramp. Entry fees are $50 and hours are 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be a four-fish limit.  For information, contact Rick Kedik, 269-240-4917.
