Thirteen teams battled 20 mph winds in the final regular season Polar Bear Circuit event held at Lake Maxincukee last Sunday, with five teams coming in with limits.

There were four bags that breached the 10 pound mark, making it a tight race as always.

First place went to Tad Hepler and Jason Dittmer with a 12.58-pound bag with their largest fish weighing 2.52 pounds. They were reported to be spot locked in one spot for most of the day, where they slow rolled swimbaits. All of their fish were largemouth. They also weighed a walleye that took the rolling trifecta pot for being the highest finisher that weighed a critter. They earned $550 for their efforts.

Jeremy Bunnell and Lee Duracz were second ($150) with 11.24 pounds caught primarily on Ned rigs in deeper waters where fish were presumably were following bait on weed lines. Their biggest bass weighed 2.42 and they had a mixed bag of smallmouth and largemouth.

Third place ($120) and big bass honors went to Terry Burgess and Chris Brunt who drifted deeper weed patches while battling winds all day. They weighed in with 10.28 pounds and the big bass of the event, a 3.14 pounder.

Fishing’s favorite couple, Steve and Amy Martin, was able to nab the critter pot ($65) yet again with a 3.40-pound walleye. It, along with other walleyes they caught on blades, made them a nice supper after a tough day of bass fishing.
