Polar Bear Report
Andy Buss and Kerry Frey - 1st Place
A giant bass helped carry Andy Buss and Kerry Frey to victory in the Tackle Shack Polar Bear Tournament on Duke’s Bridge last weekend.
It was truly a Polar-Bear-Kind-of-Day. Fifteen teams fished in snow, rain and 30 mph winds.
A 6-pound largemouth anchored Buss and Frey’s 15.99-pound catch to earn them $280 for the victory and another $75 for big bass. The winners used half-ounce blade baits in water 15 to 28 feet. They said Humminbird MegaLive helped them spot the fish.
Jeremy Bunnell and Lee Duracz - 2nd Place
Steve Kline and Aaron Likens - 3rd Place
Jeremy Bunnell and Lee Duracz were second ($170) with 13.58 pounds caught on Ned rigs and A-rigs. Steve Kline and Aaron Likens were third ($75) with 11.04 pounds.
Ron Fabizak and Jason Fowler won the critter pot ($75) with a 9.15-pound carp. Some honorable mention critters were a 6-plus-pound walleye, 7-plus-pound dogfish and a pike over 8 pounds.
Mike Lyle won the drawing for the Cashion Rod provided by Tackle Shack.
The next event is on the St. Joseph River at 6 Span. The trifecta pot is currently at $200 and will keep rolling till hit or won at last event.
