JDave and Adam Hayes - 1st Place
The father-and-son duo of Dave and Adam Hayes won the Michiana Walleye Association tournament on the St. Joseph River at Buchanan last weekend.
The Walleyes seemed to be scattered and difficult to pattern, but the fish that were caught were of good quality.Â
The winners had 3 of the right fish in their box, giving them 9.28 pounds which included big fish of the day, a 4.34 pounder, along with another walleye that was pushing 4 pounds as well. Dave and Adam caught their fish pitching jigs with leaches around structure and pulling harnesses.
Second place John Fugett and Gentry Brown were able to catch their 5 fish by pitching and drifting crawlers and leaches along the rocks giving them 8.33 pounds.
The MWA’s next stop will be back on the St. Joe River at Maggie's Landing Aug. 20th. Anyone interested in fishing the tournament should contact Gentry Brown at 219-869-2119.
