Louie Stout and Chuck Powell - 1st Place
Chuck Powell and Louie Stout found the right size of school at Klinger Lake and it rewarded them with first place in the Michiana Fishing League (MFL) Open last weekend.
The winners had 11.32 pounds that included big bass of the event, a 2.95-pound largemouth. They caught most of their fish in 23 feet of water on grubs fished on 3/8-ounce jigheads and caught 7 keepers on consecutive casts. They culled a couple on C-Flash crankbaits on outer weed edges later in the day.
Andy Buss and John Dupont were second with 9.65 pounds. Andy stated he caught 4 of the 5 using a C-Flash .38 Bluegill crankbait on the weed edges and caught 1 of the keepers using a drop shot.
Richard Chupp and Sherry Wise were third with 9.31 pounds and had the second big bass, a 2.65-pound largemouth.
Cj and Chris Stamm were fourth with 8.49 pounds.
The MFL has one Summer Open remaining this season, Oct. 2 on the St. Joe River in Benton Harbor, Mich. Hours are 7:30 a.m. - 2 p.m.
