Kent Dowden caught four bass weighing 13.65 pounds to win the Polar Bear Open on Diamond Lake last weekend.

Lee Duracz and Jeremy Bunnell were second in the four-boat event with 11.35. Jake Otto and his girlfriend (no name provided) had 10.97 pounds including the tourney’s biggest fish weighing 4.59 pounds and Todd Mason had 10.79.

Every team had at least one 3 pound fish.

Dowden had three fish over 3 pounds. He said he saw nine bullfrogs jump into the water and caught his two biggest fish within 20 minutes on an artificial frog. All told, he caught six bass from the lily pads and added a smallmouth on a 9-inch Slug-Go.

Duracz and Bunnell caught their fish shallow on drop-shot rigs and Ned rigs.

Duracz won the drawing for the Tackle Shack $100 Daiwa Fuego spinning reel.

The next tournament is Saturday at Lake Maxinkuckee. Entry fee is $50 and hours are 7:30 to 2:30. Contact Lee Duracz for info, 574-322-8564.
