Clay and Brad Sterling out-dueled a tough field of 31 teams Saturday in the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club (SMAC) tournament on Paw Paw Lake.
The father/son team had 18.49 pounds of smallmouth by fishing drop-shot rigs on beds in 2 to 4 feet of water. They also had the biggest bass, a 4.45-pound smallmouth.
Justin Hahaj and Herman Barry were second with 16.99 pounds, also caught on beds, with drop-shot rigs in 2 to 4 feet of water.
Third place went to Neil Vande Biezen and Joe LaFontaine with 15.50 pounds of smallmouth caught on drop-shot rigs and Strike King Menaces in 3 to 5 feet.
The tournament paid 7 places due to the large field. There were 105 bass carried to the scales weighing 261.48 pounds and included 45 smallmouth.
SMAC will be back at it again Saturday at Diamond Lake. Visit this website’s Lake Drive Marine Events Calendar for details.
