SMAC Report
Anglers using forward facing sonar (FFS) dominated the Southwest Michigan Anglers Club (SMAC) season opener on Paw Paw Lake.
Three of the top five finishers were using the technology and fished alone.
Brandon Eaton - 1st Place
Brandon Eaton fished alone to catch five smallmouth weighing 17.58 pounds. He fished deep with swimbaits to catch suspended smallmouth.
Bradley Eaton - 2nd Place
Bradley Eaton also fished alone to finish second with 16.71 pounds of smallmouth. He fished swimbaits in 30 feet while using FFS.
Herman Barry and Justin Hahaj - 3rd Place
Herman Barry and Justin Hahaj were third with five largemouth weighing 13.96 pounds. They caught them on jerkbaits and Ned rigs in 2 to 5 feet.
Evan De La Rosa - 4th Place
Evan De La Rosa fished alone to finish fourth with a 13.66-pound limit of smallmouth. He used a minnow type bait to target the smallmouth on his FFS.
Seth and Scott Spaulding - 5th Place
Seth and Scott Spaulding were fifth with 13.32 pounds. They also took Big Bass honors with a 5.23-pound tank. They fished shallow with Chatterbaits and wacky rigs.
The tournament drew 21 boats that carried 101 fish to the scales, 30 of which were smallmouth. Total weight was 239.68 pounds.
