South Shore Open Report
Phil Duracz and Clint Marler - 1st Place
Michiana’s Phil Duracz and Clint Marler won the South Shore Bass Open last weekend and went home with $7,000.
Duracz and Marler had 28.30 pounds in the popular two-day event held on Lake Michigan and attached waters in Indiana and Michigan.
The Chesterton, Ind. anglers are some of the top sticks in northern Indiana. In previous years, Duracz has broken Indian records for whitefish and burbot, both caught from Lake Michigan.
Second place ($2,500) went to Ross Tornabene and Ryan Whitacre with 28.12 while Zach Suchanek and Cole Schroede were third ($1,500) with 27.17.
The winners fished poppers, homemade jigs and drop-shot rigs to catch their fish in 10 to 20 feet of water. Most of their fish came from Lake Calumet.
“We were given sample packs of Jake’s Lure Joint Ned and finesse worms and they worked great on our drop shot rigs,” said Duracz.
