Scopers dominated The Michiana Fishing League results on Gull Lake Sunday in which 21 of 22 teams had limits despite high winds, hard rain and falling air temperatures.

Tanner Hursh and Hailey Dodd won with 16.19 pounds that was topped by a 4.35 pounds kicker. They caught their fish in 20- to 80 feet on minnow-style baits.

Neil Vande Biezen was second with 15.69 pounds by fishing a 4-inch Strike King Z-Too (Tennessee Shad) over 60 feet of water.

Third place went to Jesse Richerdson and Lance Cole who had 15.64 pounds. They were targeting the outside edge of spawning areas in 30- to 50-feet of water with small swim baits and jig/minnows.

Jared Tighe won the big bass pot with a 4.65-pound smallmouth that he caught in 20 feet on a jighead minnow.

CJ Stamm won the critter pot with a 9.43 pounds bowfin.
Tournament Director Michael Smith said his team had to fizz several fish that were struggling after the weigh-in. He encourages competitors to do a better job of taking care of fish, especially taking time to properly fizz those caught in deep water.
“I’m going to print out some wallet-size cards with instructions on how to fizz, laminate them, and pass them out to our anglers,” he said.
