A blistering wind and temperatures in the 30s delayed any bedding action and played into the hands of pre-spawn anglers in the Michiana Fishing League tournament at Hudson Lake Sunday.
The tournament produced double digit limits among top finishers. The week before, several beds were noted but the cold front left them empty Sunday.
Thomas Bauer and Chris Gambee - 1st Place
Winners Thomas Bauer and Chris Gambee put together an impressive bag weighing 15.96 pounds including the Pig Plucker Big Bass Award with a 3.85 kicker. They caught their fish on Pig Plucker swim jigs and tubes on a grass line in four feet of water.
Jeremy Bunnell and Louie Stout - 2nd Place
Jeremy Bunnell and Louie Stout were second with 14.94 pounds caught on Ned rigs, jigs and drop-shot rigs. They fished grass patches in 5-7 feet of water and weeds on a breakline in 10 feet of water.
Zach McNary - 3rd Place
Zach McNary was third with 10.87 pounds caught on swim jigs in very shallow water.
Kasey Conklin and Cameron Mead were fourth with 8.24 while Derek Kelley and Devon were fifth with 6.80 pounds.
Casting Couples Report
Travis Osbun and Bo Judd (Elkhart) - 1st Place
Travis Osbun and Bo Judd (Elkhart) caught five bass weighing 17.35 pounds to beat out 21 other teams in the Casting Couples Open at Webster Lake in northern Indiana.
Although sponsored by a man/woman couples circuit, the tournament was open to anyone.
The winners ($400) used jigs in five feet or less and won the big bass pot ($105) with a 4.31 pounder.
Eben Lambert and Shaw Cleland (Mishawaka) - 2nd Place
Eben Lambert and Shaw Cleland (Mishawaka) were second ($200) with a limit weighing 16.76 pounds caught on Rat’L Traps in shallow water. They had their limit the first hour of the contest.
Bob Johnson (Elkhart) - 3rd Place
Bob Johnson (Elkhart) fished alone to finish third ($110) with 14.61 pounds. He used worms in shallow water.
Jake Lisenko and Rick Kedik (South Bend) were fourth ($80) with 14 pounds caught on swimbaits in eight feet of water.
The next open is on the St. Joseph River at 6 Span Bridge April 24 from 7-1. Entry fee is $50 with optional $5 big b ass pot. Call Rick at 269-240-4917.

Jeremy Bunnell and Jim Wheeler - 1st Place
Jeremy Bunnell and Jim Wheeler caught 11.94 pounds to win the Michiana Fishing League (MFL) tournament at Sylvan Lake last weekend.
Tom Wegiel - 2nd Place
Tom Wegiel fished alone to finish second with 9.46 pounds while Derek Kelley and Devon Wright were third with 9.28.
Derek Kelley and Devon Wright - 3rd Place
The WildMinnow Big Bass Award went to Nick Hughes and Jacob Meeker with a 3.25-pound largemouth.
Several fish were caught throughout the day with spinnerbaits, bladed jigs and square bills dominating.
Best Catch Couples Circuit kicked off the season at the Dallas Chain with 10-boats under cool, wet weather but the fish were biting.
LeeAnn and Scott Sizemore - 1st Place
LeeAnn and Scott Sizemore won with 13.8 pounds that included the big bass of the event, a 3.9-pound bass.
Danielle and Brandon Gunn - 2nd Place
Marci and John Dixon - 3rd Place
Danielle and Brandon Gunn were second with 10.71 pounds while Marci and John Dixon were third with 9.2 pounds.
Most of the fish were caught on crankbaits and soft plastics around weed edges and drop offs.
The next tournament is April 24 at Hudson Lake. It starts at 7:15. Entry fee is $50 per team. For more information, call Randy Walls, 219-221-1109.
R&B Report
Mark Farver and Steve Kline won the R&B Super Saturday tournament last month on Lake Maxinkuckee with 13.16 pounds. The winners ($1,520) also had big bass ($150) weighing 2.47 pounds.
Second place ($880) went to Brad and Clay Sterling with 12.71 pounds while Ron Fabiszak and Tad Heppler were third with 12.59 pounds.
