The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is asking for comments on a proposal to increase the amount of ethanol that must be blended into the nation's fuel supply for 2015 and 2016.

If adopted, these proposed levels will require the use of a record amount of ethanol, forcing higher-level fuel blends (including E15 or 15% ethanol) into more gas stations. Remember that most marine engines are built to only work with up to 10% ethanol and itís prohibited to use gas containing more than 10% ethanol in all marine engines.

Please take a moment to go to www.capwiz.com/boatus/utr/1/EWXDUYRXXD/KWXKUYTXED/10931147561 and send a message urging the EPA to lower the ethanol mandates to ensure an adequate supply of fuel that will work in your boat.

In response to anglers' requests to network ONIX, ION and 800, 900 or 1100 series (ethernet models) units on the same boat, Humminbird engineers rolled up their sleeves and started writing code.

Now, after months of caffeine-fueled sessions in the lab and on the water, Humminbird(r) is proud to announce Version 2.300 Software, a free download available through each unit owner's (http://www.humminbird.com/Support/MyHumminbird) account that seamlessly integrates 800, 900 and 1100 Series units (Ethernet models) with ONIX and ION.

Most notably, Version 2.300 software offers significant performance upgrades and features, including the ability to share waypoint data (and Spot-Locks) in both directions between core units and ONIX and ION.

Another breakthrough feature of Version 2.300 software is a new waypoint list view that allows easy viewing of map areas with dense waypoint clustering, which will be of particular interest to tournament anglers and guides.

As boaters are about to begin the spring ritual of getting their boats ready for the season, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) is advising they will need to pay extra attention to the fire extinguishers aboard.

A well-known fire extinguisher manufacturer, Kidde, in conjunction with the US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a voluntary recall to replace certain Kidde fire extinguisher units. A faulty valve component can cause the disposable fire extinguishers not to fully discharge when the lever is repeatedly pressed and released during a fire emergency, posing a risk of injury. About 4.6 million extinguishers are affected that were sold nationwide between August 2013 and November 2014.

Mercury Marine announced today that credit-worthy borrowers who purchase a qualifying engine through the Mercury Repower Financing Program are eligible to defer their first loan payment for 90 days.

The Mercury Repower Financing Program, launched in September 2014, offers repower engine financing to credit-worthy consumers.

This optional deferred-payment promotion runs concurrent to the existing Repower Revolution promotion, which launched Jan. 1 and runs through April 30, and offers a promotional financing rate of 4.99% APR* for qualified applicants. This low rate provides customers the option of choosing a payment that fits their budget and allows customers to get the engine they want today. Consumers who choose the Repower Revolution rebate instead of financing can receive a rebate of up to $1,625 per qualifying repower engine.
