Kyle Kaser and Kayla Bermes eked out a Michiana Fishing League victory on Lake Maxinkuckee Sunday.
With the application period for Michigan’s elk season opening Friday, May 1, hunters should be aware of several key changes to the popular hunt.
St. Croix Rod expands the angler-favorite Mojo Musky lineup with three all-new longer models – a 10’ heavy power JOMFG100HF2, a 10’ extra-heavy power JOMFG100XHF2, and a 10’6” heavy power JOMFG106HF2. All are two-piece with a 70/30 split that places the junction low in the stiffer section of the rod.

Just when we thought the steelhead run might be drawing to a disappointing close, here comes another slug of fish.
Bodine Hatchery Manager Dave Meuninck said about 275 steelhead pushed through the South Bend ladder last week, renewing hope that perhaps a good run might be salvaged after all.
Of the 275 trout recorded going through the ladder from Oct. 23-30, about 40 percent were Michigans winter run variety and the rest were Skamania, the latter of which should have been here a month or more ago.

Hunters will not be able to use bonus antlerless deer licenses this year on some DNR-managed properties in northern Indiana because the extra hunting pressure is not needed to control the population at those sites.
The sites are Menominee Wetland Conservation Area (near Plymouth), Maxinkuckee Wetland Conservation Area (near Culver), the Hufford Wildlife Trust Area (south of Monticello), and the Manitou Wetland Conservation Area, including the Judy Burton Nature Preserve and the Bob Kern Nature Preserve (near Rochester).
