The Edwardsburg Conservation Club will host a Youth Day Event Saturday, Aug. 25 for kids 5 to 17 years old.
Youths will be introduced to outdoor activities such as trapshooting, muzzleloading, fly tying, archery and first aid. It runs from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The Cassopolis Fire Department will teach participants how to escape a smoke filled/burning house and the Howell Nature Center will be on hand with its "Birds of Prey."

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State University Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health recently confirmed and announced the death of deer in Ionia and Branch counties was due to epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD).
As of Wednesday, the two organizations have confirmed EHD in six additional counties: Barry, Calhoun, Cass, Clinton, Eaton and Montcalm. There has been a nationwide increase of EHD outbreaks due to the extended hot and dry conditions.

Michigans Fisheries Division announced this week it recommends the Upper Peninsula brook trout daily possession limit remain at its current level of five.
In 2000, the daily possession limit for brook trout in most Michigan streams was reduced from 10 fish to five fish. Since that time anglers have asked the DNR to consider reinstating the 10 fish daily possession limit for brook trout on Upper Peninsula streams.

Michigan goose hunters will enjoy a longer season and duck hunters will be able to take up to four scaup daily this year.
The early Canada goose hunting season begins statewide Sept. 1 and runs through Sept. 15 most of the state. The daily bag limit is five.
Cougar Sighting Confirmed in Upper PeninsulaA recent trail camera photo of a cougar in northern Marquette County has been verified by the Department of Natural Resources cougar team.
The photo was taken at 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18 on private property. The landowner, who has asked to remain anonymous, met with DNR Wildlife Division staff this week to confirm the location where the photo was taken.
