Swap market for antique tackle.Swap market for antique tackle.Several lure collectors and members of the public stopped by the Heddon Lure Collectorsí public gathering last month and another good group is anticipated for the next meeting, June 10 at the Heddon Museum in Dowagiac, Mich.

Last month, the collectors had a busy time trading and buying fishing items among themselves. Trading lures is especially fun in that both parties are happy with the new lures they have exchanged. This adds to their collection with no cash involved.

Some collectors also bring in their collections for a little "show and tell." Collectors also enjoy telling a few funny fishing stories that help break up the evening.

At our last meeting, a woman walked in off the street with a dozen old lures to sell. She quickly received some good offers on six of the lures from collectors and walked off with a handful of cash. There also were a number of visitors to the museum who enjoyed the guided tour and the displays of old fishing items and the history that went with them.

The meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month and are open to everyone. They start at 6:30 p.m. in the old Heddon Factory on the south side of Dowagiac, 414 West St. The museum phone number is 269-782-4068 or email me at NDBUCHA@yahoo.com.
