Mark Fennell (LaGrange) and Andy Buss (North Liberty) won the Clear H2o Big Bass Challenge last weekend on Eagle and Juno lakes.

The tournament replaces the annual Lunker’s Tournament held in previous years on the popular fishing Lakes.

The event attracted 41 boats, with 21 fishing Eagle and 20 on Juno. The weigh-in was conducted at Clear H2o Tackle, where cash prizes to the top 11 teams was paid out.

Winners ($750) Fennell and Buss fished Juno to catch 12 pounds, 3 ounces on tubes and stickworms shallow.

There was a tie for second place. John Gipson (Lafayette) and Tom Noe (Benton Harbor) tied with Mickey Thomas and Dave Clark (Edwardsburg) for second place with 11 pounds, 9 ounces. Gipson and Noe caught their fish on Trick Worms, jigs and swimbaits in 2 to 6 feet of water on Juno while Clark and Thomas used spinnerbaits shallow on Eagle Lake. Each team won $490.

The Gipson team also won big bass honors ($225) with a 4-4 largemouth caught on a swimbait while Chuck Powell (Osceola) fished alone and had second biggest bass ($175), a 3-12 largemouth, caught on a jig.
